About the project
The DATI pilot project (Wegweiser Empathie – Mitgefühl und Perspektiven) is an innovative collaboration between the Berlin School of Economics and Law (HWR) as a research partner and Pro Arbeit as a practical partner.
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space (BMFTR) and aims to give employees the tools they need to overcome challenges in a counseling context, particularly in the areas of migration and interculturalism.
The project combines evidence-based research with an innovative practical approach to create a broader understanding of different perspectives through interactive exchange between young people and job center employees. On the one hand, the project offers job coaches insights into the lives of young people so that they can better understand interculturally relevant situations in their everyday counseling work. On the other hand, the young project participants gain career-relevant insights into job placement.
Project period: October 1, 2024 – March 31, 2026 (18 months)
Project phases
- Assessing the initial situation – qualitative interviews with job center employees
- Developing training content – content for changing perspectives and dialogue for job coaching work processes
- Qualifying guides – recruiting and qualifying teenagers and young adults
- Implement training – workshops and meetings
- Evaluate impact – scientific evaluation
Project objectives
The aim of the project is to promote understanding between job center employees and clients in the context of cultural diversity and different migration backgrounds.
Specifically, it involves the following:
- Promoting the ability of job center employees to see things from different perspectives in order to improve clients' access to the labor market.
- Analysis of current counseling practices: The experiences and challenges of job center employees are being surveyed in a scientific study.
- Developing a practical training concept: Based on the findings, a concept will be developed to facilitate the everyday work processes of job center employees and improve the quality of counseling.
- Conducting a workshop for exchange between young people and job center employees.
Target groups of the project
In order to promote better understanding, open up new perspectives, and improve working relationships in the context of counseling, the project is aimed at the following groups:
- Integration specialists, job coaches, and their managers from the job centers in the Offenbach district, the city of Offenbach, and the Groß-Gerau district
- Interculturally sensitive young people and young adults who are trained to become empathy guides
